Desolate
I have pity and sympathy for the people and My heart goes out to them, for they have been with Me now three days and have nothing [left] to eat;
3 And if I send them away to their homes hungry, they will be feeble through exhaustion and faint along the road; and some of them have come a long way.
4 And His disciples replied to Him, How can anyone fill and satisfy [these people] with loaves of bread here in [this] desolate and uninhabited region? Mark 8 (AMPC)
Sometimes, we feel like the disciples. They questioned asking can anyone be fulfilled in this “desolate” land? Most of us think like this when life is hard. How can anything good happen? Where is God? Why hasn’t He done something? Maybe, our strength dwindles and we feel like we are losing faith.
The disciples stated the reality of the situation. Yet, Jesus is about to give thanks, praise God, and make a miracle. His miracle will satisfy and fill a multitude of people. God is good, even when life feels desolate. I believe people give up on God right before a miracle is about to happen, they see their life and their reality. It feels desolate. These people were with God in human form and they might have even wondered, “where are you, God?”
Susan Larson states, “Oftentimes our heartaches and our unfulfilled heart’s desires skew our perspective and keep us thinking small. We need to learn to crawl out of our smaller story so we can see all that God is up to in and around us. Because He is, and it’s awesome.” (Your Powerful Prayers)
Do you feel desolate?
May we keep praising. May we keep praying. May life circumstances not define our God. May we see God as He is and invite Him in our lives to fill us and make miracles of our messes.
God,
I invite You in. I am sorry for being angry at You, because life is hard. You told me ahead of time that it would be, yet You promise to “never leave me.” Feed me when I feel desolate. Please make miracles out of the messes in my life. May Your great love capture my heart continually. In Jesus name
