What Was It
“In those days when [again] an immense crowd had gathered and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples to Him and told them,
2 I have pity and sympathy for the people and My heart goes out to them, for they have been with Me now three days and have nothing [left] to eat; (Mark 9:1-2 AMPC)
Three days of following Jesus and yet they were not leaving. What about Jesus captivated them, so that they did not want to go home and sleep in their own bed? What about Him was so fulfilling that they did not care if they ate? What about Jesus changed their desire for earthly needs?
I tried to put myself in their shoes: I get hungry every three or four hours, I am easily distracted, a long sermon can make me lose attention…But not His presence, this did not happen for thousands of people in His presence. This in itself amazes me!
I wonder if His voice was the voice of God to each person in a deep healing personal way. Did they heard a whisper filling their hearts with truth? “You are loved, you are treasured, you are a masterpiece.” Maybe they heard something more personal, “I know, I saw when no one else saw, I was there, I still love you, come to Me.” Maybe they heard something that healed the core of their being something like, “This life is hard, the enemy tries to blame Me. Your pain was not My doing- it was life and sin- and other people’s choices-I will rescue you.” Maybe He spoke saying, “I know, yes, I know about that and I forgive you, go and sin no more. My love and My grace are big enough to cover all, please turn to Me. Inviting Me in to all aspects of your life.”
What do you think the voice of Jesus would speak to you? He speaks complete love, grace, and truth. His heart mends our heart. (Note: His voice never contradicts the Bible.)
Today, take a moment to quiet your heart and what would you have been doing in the crowd? What would make you want to stay for three days with Jesus? What needs to be healed in your heart?
Jesus,
Please heal my heart. You know what is there. You know my pain. Help me to want to want You to see my pain and sin. I know Your love covers all. In Jesus name
