Be merciful unto me, O Lord, for I cry unto thee daily. Psalm 86:3, KJV
When we talk about the “dailyness” of God, we remember that He is available to us all the time. We can cry to Him daily and know that He doesn’t take a day off from loving us or hearing our prayers or bearing our burdens! And although He purchased our salvation 2,000 years ago, and it is a completed work, Jesus deals with us each day, helping us to grow. Since the enemy is against that work of God in our lives, it would be wise for us to reinforce our spiritual armor daily. It means we take time to remember what we believe, to feed our faith by taking in His Word, and to fortify ourselves through prayer. Just like the children of Israel in the wilderness had to collect their manna daily, we need sustenance from God on a regular basis.
But here is something exciting! Even though the Lord knows each day of our lives ahead of time, He says that He “daily loads us with blessings.” (Psalm 68:19) He considers our well-being every day. His goodness and mercy chase us down. We need to focus on thankfulness for these blessings every day, which keeps us from focusing on the negatives and the stressful circumstances around us.
Daily gratitude keeps you from playing the old “What’s wrong with this picture?” game. You play that by searching for, making lists of, and erecting memorials to, all the negatives you can find. (We don’t do it on purpose, we just get started and can’t stop—because seeing the negative is so much easier than focusing on the positive!) Don’t do that! Anyone can get caught up in that. We who are God’s children have the wonderful opportunity to rise up every day and give God praise and thanksgiving, and then receive good things—new everyday—from Him!
*Name the blessing God is “loading” on you today. Be grateful!
Dear Father, thank You for loving me like You do. Thank you for daily loading me with blessings. Forgive me for acting like it’s not enough. I want to be better at looking for Your gifts and graces in every corner of my life. Help me to count my blessings and embrace Your benefits. I give You praise for the grace that also allows me to cry unto You daily for the places that still need Your merciful touch. I bow down to You, with thanksgiving, Amen.
