This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.  Psalm 118:24

One of my granddaughters seems to be able to find the rejoicing in almost anything. I spent the day and night with her not long ago, and we went shopping. She was told she could choose one thing, and she deliberated quite a while, finally settling on a big box of little-girl makeup. (What princess doesn’t love makeup, right?) When we got home and she opened it, getting ready to use it, she said, “My momma would never let me get this. This is a dream come true!” I love it! I laughed so hard! A dream come true? If you are four, yes!

Oh that I would take such wonder in the gifts of my life. My “rejoicing” is reduced to big answers to prayer, and miraculous things that only God could do….which are certainly cause for rejoicing. But what about being surrounded, as I was a few weeks ago, by my thirteen grandchildren, all of them bursting with health? A dream come true! Six of them are adopted—a dream come true! I sat in church last Sunday, singing praises to God with the freedom to freely worship Him. For many in the world that is a dream come true. The fact that I know that all my sins are forgiven and I am certain of a glorious home in heaven one day. That is cause for rejoicing and a wonderful dream come true.

Psalm 126 says, “When the Lord restored His exiles to Jerusalem, it was like a dream! We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy…Yes, the Lord has done amazing things for us! What joy!”

I want to pay attention, to savor, to be filled with joy for all the wonderful things that God has done and has given!  Like that old gospel song, “O Happy Day,” and like Esmae, I want to live rejoicing every day!

*What keeps you from choosing each day to rejoice? Pick one thing that today is a “dream come true.”

God, You have done great things for us, and we are filled with joy! There is so much that we take for granted, and for that we ask Your forgiveness. There is so much we have been given, and for that we give You praise! In Your great and wonderful name we pray, Amen.
