The righteous will flourish…they will still bear fruit in old age; they will stay fresh and green. Psalm 92:12, 14
Mark Hansen spoke at a college graduation and met the oldest graduating doctor; she was seventy-two. When he asked her what she did before becoming a doctor, she told him she had been a nun but was forced to retire at age sixty-five.
He asked, “Why did you decide at that age to spend the next seven years becoming a doctor?” She replied humbly, “Because I wasn’t done. My purpose is to serve.” She is now seeing fifty patients every day. That’s amazing, isn’t it! And it shows she has a spirit of optimism, sense of purpose, and the courage of her convictions. A French philosopher said “One doesn’t discover new lands without losing sight of the shore for a very long time.”
I don’t have the nature of a “discoverer.” I realize that one of the lies I’ve believed for a lot of my life is “It’s too late.” That may be one of yours, too. The thing is, though, there will always be “logical” reasons why something can’t be done. But strength of belief is powerful, and powerful lives are motivated by dynamic purposes. What is yours? The Apostle Paul said, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me.” That’s strength of conviction.
“I press on.” I love that! Look at the verse for today: even when it’s way past time, there can still be fruit…not old, brown fruit, but fruit that is miraculously fresh and green!
*What is your most powerful hindrance? What will become your most powerful belief?
Lord Jesus, When I think of fresh and green even beyond season, I think of renewal. So God, I’m asking for renewal in my life and purpose. May I never put a roadblock where You intend to make a way. Help me to flourish. Cause me to flourish! My life matters, thanks to You, Amen.
