And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28 NLT

My middle son, Eben, is our peaceful leader. Ever since, he was little, people have been drawn to him. On his basketball team, he is one of the smallest and youngest, yet he is a leader and encourager. In our final basketball game, we knew the game would be close, Eben was so excited to play, but in the first quarter a kid from the other team about three heads taller stepped on him while he was falling. Watching from the stands, I was thankful that Eben was not holding his head or his face, but instead his ankle. He tried to get up and walk, but couldn’t. The coach, who is dad, rushed on the court to care for him. Then dad did the most amazing thing, he picked Eben up and carried him across the court.

Watching my brothers play little league, high school, college, professionally for twenty plus years, I cannot remember ever seeing a coach carry a player off the court. After the game, the moms told me, “your dad would have carried any one of his team.”

This thought led me to the Father, He knows how excited we are to play the game and to do the dream that He put in our heart. He agonizes with us when other people step on us on our journey. When we are down, He enters our pain. Then He does something so powerfully loving- He picks us up and carries us.

Do you feel like you have been stepped on?

What do you need God to carry you out of today?

Are you hurting?

You and I can invite God into our deepest pain and meet us there in our hurt. In this place of inviting Jesus in to be our Healer, He can carry us out of the agony. Then He can shape our pain with His amazing power to work good in our life and the lives of those around us.

Jesus,
I invite You into my pain. God, I need You to carry me. When life is hard, help me to remember that You are loving. In Jesus name
