He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  Psalm 91:1

If you are doing this fitness challenge, then the focus for today is on rest.

Rest your body – Prioritize rest

A lot of people (especially young people) will tell me they are tired. Why? They don’t go to bed at night. They leave their phones on and look at them until it is late. They are addicted to technology. I understand how easy it is to stay “connected” at night when you don’t feel sleepy, but the next morning, it’s hard to get up. Why would you want to spend the days of your life being tired when not being tired feels so much better? Make a choice to get more rest. You would be amazed at the difference. (But it will be a fight with yourself to choose it!)Part of this is learning to say no…to people and yourself.

Rest your soul- Cultivate a restful heart

What does it mean to have a restful heart? This is not a natural state of being for me. My mind often keeps me from being restful. As I look at Psalm 91:1, I ask, “What does it mean to dwell in the secret place?” Susie Larson says, “It’s to live with the sense that you’re tucked under God’s protective wing, and to identify yourself as His with every step you take. When you dwell with Him, you can more easily rest in Him.” Don’t strive, or get into overdrive: stop and ask God to give you a restful heart—right then. Today be more aware of your thoughts.

*What are some things that keep you from being a rested and restful person?

Father, I want to establish a healthy rhythm in my life, both physically and spiritually. Help me to prioritize the things that make a big difference in my life but that are easy to neglect. Remind me when it’s time to stop. Teach my heart to rest in You. May I wake up each morning restored, healed, and refreshed. Help me to guard my heart against anxious thoughts and anxious ways. I have a tendency to let go of the things that nourish me and to do the things that weaken me. Forgive me, Lord! I want to lay hold of all You have for me; rest, strength, health, and abundant life. Lead me in the way that I should go. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
