I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me will never go hungry, and he who believes in Me will never be thirsty.  John 6:35

In her book “Are You Having Fun Yet?” Carmen Berry says that much of our lives are determined by our perspective. We can be entrenched in either the perspective of scarcity or abundance. This isn’t about monetary provision; it is about seeing what may be available to us that we refuse to acknowledge.

Because she was a workaholic, she loathed asking for help, and actually believed it wasn’t available to her. She was on her own, or so she thought. When she began to embrace the abundance available by being willing to be vulnerable and honest, her eyes were opened to the many ways that nurturance was obtainable for her.

Some of the ways that she receives nurturance now are:

  • God - He is available to help and guide. When she thought she was on her own, she didn’t believe God cared enough to speak to her or listen to her prayers.
  • Massages - By ignoring her physical needs for so many years, she was unable to take care of herself well. Now she understands better what she is feeling emotionally when she becomes more aware of how she is feeling physically. Through massages, she is more honest about the stress she is under.
  • Trusting others – She goes to a therapist who acknowledges her needs and instructs and supports her, letting her know what is healthy and what is not. She sees now that truth has always been available, but when you are wrapped up in dysfunction, truth seems hard to find.
  • Friends and support group – She sees that nurturance has always been available if she had to learn how to receive it.

She asks, “Is it possible that the deprivation of my past does not have to be the blueprint of my future? Can I possibly relate in a healthier way to those I love and want to love? Can I change my self-defeating patterns? Is it possible to have enough of what I need? Yes!”

*Do you believe it’s possible for you to change your self-defeating patterns?

Holy Father, Open my eyes to see beyond what’s in front of me. Help me to function from a place of overflow not emptiness. Your promises are true, and You will make a way for me. I believe this with my whole heart. Amen.
