“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’” (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT)

God is always whispering. If we know His Word, then we hear His voice calling us to something greater than the ordinary. His words can become the echo in our head, “You are more than a conqueror, you are a masterpiece, you are My special treasure, I will never leave you, I have good plans for you.”

Although I wish I knew the plan, He knows. If we trust His heart, we can trust His plan “For good… to give you a future and a hope.”

So, why do His plans take so long? Why do we face adversity? Why do we experience setbacks? Why do we feel like quitting?

Our humanity contends with the Divine. We know in our hearts His truth, yet we wrestle with ourselves—am I good enough? Do I have what it takes? Will I ever get there? If He put a dream in our heart, He can get us there. His timing and path may look different than the one we envision. Our dream might even change form.

We must come to an end of ourselves with our hands open in surrender and say, “I let go of control, here is my dream, my hope, my desire, I want what You want more than what I want. I trust Your heart.” When we pray this, something happens in our souls. The surrender allows the God of the Universe to take over and work His plan, which is better than ours. As we look at stories in the Old Testament, so often God just asked for a willing surrender, next came an amazing blessing. The blessing was right around the corner, yet so hard to see because the surrender was so painful or long in coming.

On our journey to surrender, God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit sit with us as we wrestle, walk beside us as we pace, love us as we fight, hold our hand as we go back and forth. He is always waiting. Then in that moment when we say, “I want You and Your will more than mine.” He rejoices, instead of shaming us for our stubbornness, He embraces us. I envision Him saying, “Come on, let’s go.”

We might not know where He is leading, but we can trust His heart to take us to the place He knows will bring us great joy. For He places a God-sized dream in each of us.

Self Reflection:

  • Do I wonder why His plans take so long?
  • What adversity have I faced?
  • Can I let go of my desire to do it on my own and embrace what He has for me?

Prayer:

Jesus, I give You me. I give You my dreams, my plans, my hopes, and all of my desires. I want what You want more than what I want. Please take me by the hand and lead me to Your heart and Your dream for me. In Jesus’ name.
